India put up a gritty display but ended up on the losing side against World champions Australia in the final of the Champions trophy at London today. The Men in Blue ended regular time 0-0, but lost the penalty shootout 1-3 to miss out on the gold in their maiden Champions trophy appearance.

India’s hope of making it to their first-ever final in the Champions Trophy hangs in the balance after Australia defeated them 4-2 in the final pool match in London on Thursday. Although India are currently second, the result of the match between Great Britain and Belgium will decide their fate.

India survived a late match scare from the Koreans to seal a 2-1 victory in their fourth match of the Champions Trophy 2016. Chandanda Thimmaiah scored a 57th minute goal to ward off a late Korean surge after SV Sunil had scored the first ably supported by Raghunath and Talwinder earlier.

Indian hockey team’s unbeaten run at the 2016 Champions Trophy came to an end on Monday after they suffered a 1-2 defeat to Belgium. Although Devindar Walmiki equalised for India after Alexander Hendrickx’s goal, Jerome Truyens took Belgium to victory with a goal in the third quarter.

India defeated hosts Great Britain 2-1 in their second match of the 2016 Champions Trophy at London on Saturday to move to the top position in the table with four points from two matches. Mandeep Singh and Harmanpreet Singh scored the goals for India, while Ashley Jackson scored for the hosts.

Despite putting on a stunning display of pressing and counter-attacking hockey, India had to settle for a 3-3 draw against Germany in their first match of the Hockey Champions Trophy at London on Friday. Jonas Gomoll's last minute penalty stroke grabbed a point for the defending champions.
