PKL 2019 | The players are hungry to prove themselves on the mat, reveals Srinivas Reddy
Jaipur Pink Panthers coach Srinivas Reddy has stated that his team consists of young players who are eager to prove their capabilities to the world which is a very positive sign for the franchise. Meanwhile, losing coach Sanjeev Kumar admitted that his team U Mumba made mistakes and paid for it.
Jaipur Pink Panthers recorded a convincing 42-23 victory over U Mumba courtesy a brilliant performance from their captain Deepak Hooda who contributed with 11 points single-handedly. The team was equally adept in the defence department as Amit Hooda led the charge, claiming a High 5 to his name.
The coach of the Abhishek Bachhan-owned franchise seemed to be delighted with his team’s dominating display as he explained their mindset ahead of the game.
“It was a very important match for us because this is the seventh season and before today, we never won our first match of the season against U Mumba prior. So, before the match both Abhishek Bachchan and I spoke to the players and told them it’s a very important match for us and we must change history. That’s what I told my captain Deepak Hooda and he delivered from the first raid,” Srinivas Reddy was reported saying by the league’s official website.
The Pink and Blue brigade have failed to replicate their first season’s success which they had ended as champions but with a new generation of stars emerging, there is a renewed passion in the team.
“The best thing about my team is the average age is very low and they are hungry to prove themselves on the mat. It was a collective effort by everyone,” Reddy added.
U Mumba however will be disappointed they could not carry their previous match’s form into the clash against Jaipur after having won their first league game 31-25 against Telugu Titans. The team looked to be a bit sloppy with both the strategies and their execution, which unsurprisingly ended in defeat for them.
“Our plans weren’t working. Neither our defenders nor our raiders managed to get a foothold in the match. There was a chance of getting an All-Out when they had just two players on the mat and their raider got points without trying too hard. So, that was a mistake on our part, but these things happen during matches. Today Jaipur Pink Panthers’ raiders and defenders played well,” their coach Sanjeev Kumar explained to the media.
