After Bengal Warriors' thrashing victory against UP Yoddha, Maninder Singh has praised debutant Mohammad Nabibakhsh terming him a “very smart player”.  Bengal coach BC Ramesh is hopeful that the season will go well for the Kolkata-based franchise considering he got what he wanted at the auctions.

With so many Iranians already making it big at the Pro Kabaddi League, here is another all-rounder who has taken the league by storm. After his brilliant show in the All-star game earlier this month, Nabibakhsh started off his PKL career with a Super 10 against UP Yoddha. It was his performance, along with some good contributions by Baldev Singh in the defence that propelled the Warriors to a huge 48-17 win against UP Yoddha. Bengal captain Maninder heaped praise on his new teammate and is quite hopeful of a good show from the Iranian.

“He (Nabibakhsh) is a very smart player. If you notice, he didn’t raid much but raided at the correct times. He has very good skills, be it the right side or left. He is a very good raider and hopefully he will perform well for us this season,” Maninder said during the post-match press conference.

At the start of the game, the Warriors were trailing by 0-4 but then it was a combined performance with Nabibakhsh and Baldev leading the charge in their respective departments that took the team to a great start to the seventh edition of the league. Coach BC Ramesh, who made a comeback in the Kolkata-based team after the second season, is hopeful that the team will do well in the season with the kind of players.

“At the beginning our raids weren’t coming off because it is our first match. But once our raiders started performing, the rest of the players also started playing well and we managed to get a good victory.

“Last year I was Bengaluru Bulls’ coach but in Season 2 I coached Bengal Warriors, so this is not new for me. The auction was very important and we planned for it in a lot of detail. Who to take and who not to take was very important. I was very happy that everything worked out like I had planned and that I got the players I wanted. The boys have been playing well and with a lot of heart so I think we can all expect a good season this year,” Ramesh explained.
