PKL 2019 | Wanted to take risk and it paid off, reveals Manpreet Singh
After a tackle in the very last raid of the game against Jaipur Pink Panthers in the tied game yesterday, Gujarat coach Manpreet Singh has said that they were lucky that the risk taken towards the end paid off for them. He also said that the point difference of one or two doesn’t matter in defeats.
The game between Jaipur Pink Panthers and Gujarat Fortunegiants went all down to the wire and it ended up in a tie after the last raid of the match in which Nitin Rawal was successfully tackled by Parvesh Bhainswal. This tackle helped Gujarat to level the scores as they were behind by 27-28 points after the penultimate raid of the game.
After the game, Gujarat Fortunegiants’ chief coach Manpreet Singh explained the importance of taking risk and was satisfied that it paid off for the Ahmedabad-based side.
“We wanted to take that risk. Luckily for us, it paid off,” Manpreet said while addressing the reporters after the game on Saturday.
Manpreet had called for a timeout right before the last raid of the game and had instructed his players about taking the risk. He had then advised them that losing by a difference of one or two points is all the same. Manpreet said the same thing in the press conference after the first home game of the Pink Panthers in Jaipur last evening.
“If we were unsuccessful at that time then we could have lost the match. But we had decided that it doesn’t matter if we lose by one point or two in the end,” the Gujarat coach concluded.
It was a well-fought contest towards the end in which the home team had to be satisfied with a tie as Gujarat managed to take the game to a thrilling draw with some good performance by Bhainswal. Vishal was the star of the game as he scored nine tackle points from only seven attempts in the game and that helped the home side.
