Kevin Pietersen ruled out of IPL with calf tear
English batsman Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out for the rest of this season’s IPL after sustaining a calf tear during Rising Pune Supergiants’ match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday. Pietersen’s injury setback comes as another blow to Pune who have lost their last 3 games.
Revealing his injury update on social media, Pietersen expressed his disappointment at leaving what was “a really great bunch of boys” before adding he will use this layoff to spend time with his family.
Kevin Pietersen, who was bought by the Pune-based franchise in this year’s auction, scored 73 runs in his first 3 matches and looked in good nick before he picked up the injury
The injury to the 35-year old has left Rising Pune Supergiants in a spot of bother. Dhoni’s men have now lost three on the bounce, against the Gujarat Lions, Kings XI Punjab, and Royal Challengers Bangalore and will now be without the services of the swashbuckling Englishman for the rest of the season. However, Dhoni in the post-match conference said that the injury could come as a blessing in disguise for the Pune side, who will look to use this opportunity to strengthen their bowling and restore some balance in the side.
