35-year old Jhulan Goswami, who functions as an all-rounder in the Indian women’s team, has announced her retirement from Twenty20 international matches in the future for the national team. Goswami has recorded a total of 405 runs and 56 wickets from the 68 T20I matches she has participated in.

Former ICC Women’s player of the year winner, Jhulan Goswami, has arguably been one of the best bowlers in women’s cricket. She became the first bowler in the ODI history to cross the 200-wicket mark in February this year.

However, the all-rounder announced her retirement from Twenty20 international cricket in a media release on Thursday. Goswami finished her T20I career with a total of 56 wickets from 68 matches at an average of 21.94 and an economy of 5.45 and included a career-best of 5 for 11 against Australia in Visakhapatnam back in March 2012.

“Goswami thanked the BCCI and her teammates for all the love and support she garnered during her stint with the T20I team and wished them luck going forward,” the BCCI said in its release.

The 35-year old cricketer made her T20I debut in August 2006 against England in Derby and has ended her career as the third most-capped Indian player in T20Is. Goswami’s last T20I appearance was against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup final on June 10 earlier this year, which the Indians lost by three wickets. She also partnered a 19-year-old Raj during much of the latter’s record-breaking Test innings against England in 2002 in which she scored 214 runs. Goswami scored 62 off 196 balls in that instance.

Jhulan was the leading wicket-taker in women's ODIs and the first cricketer to bag 200 wickets in the 50-over format and has also played 10 Tests in which she has picked up 40 wickets at an average of 16.62 with three five-wicket hauls. The West Bengal cricketer was honoured with a postage stamp to celebrate her achievements in cricket.
