Jasprit Bumrah broke into the top 10 in the latest ICC T20 rankings after an impressive two months, first at the Asia Cup and then at the World T20. Virat Kohli maintained his numero uno status in the batting rankings and India, who lost in the semis, remained the highest ranked side.

In the latest ICC rankings released on Monday, after the conclusion of the World T20, Jasprit Bumrah reached a career high ranking of 7th breaking into the top 10 for the first time, joining teammates Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who occupied 3rd and 9th places respectively. But it was pacer Ashish Nehra who made the biggest jump, reaching 11th after being India’s best bowler in the tournament.

Virat Kohli, on the other hand, scored 273 runs in five matches and maintained his position at the top of the pile in the batting rankings. England superstar Joe Root whose 36-ball-54 wasn’t enough for England to avoid a defeat in the final, broke into the top-5 for the first time, climbing up from 11th place. The second highest ranked Indian batsman is Rohit Sharma, who is ranked at No.16.

India despite their semis loss to the West Indies stayed number one in the team rankings, with the World Champions making up ground and trimming India’s lead at the top to a solitary point. West Indies were previously 9th in the rankings but the Cup win has propelled the Caribbean boys within sniffing distance off top spot. New Zealand, who gave a good account of themselves at the World T20 before crashing out to Jason Roy’s blistering half-century, jumped up to third place from 7th.
