New Zealand v Bangladesh | Imrul Kayes and Sabbir Rahman produce the most comical run-out
In a moment of pure madness in their 2nd ODI against New Zealand at Nelson, Bangladesh batsmen Imrun Kayes and Sabbir Rahman ended up racing towards the same end of the pitch, before the latter was run out. Chasing 251, Bangladesh crumbled after that chaotic dismissal and were bowled out for 184.
In the 23rd over, Kayes played Santner’s ball towards short cover before taking off for a single. At the other end, Rahman responded to the call initially but decided against it after a while. Rahman turned around and looked to return to the crease at the bowler’s end, but his partner out-ran him, before the bails were taken off by Ronchi at the other end.
Initially, Kayes thought that he has been dismissed, but the umpires checked with the third umpire to confirm that it was Rahman who was dismissed for 38 as Kayes, who went on to score 59 runs, had crossed him and reached the crease before his partner. That run-out ended their 75-run partnership, which had put the Kiwis under a lot of pressure for a while until then.
Bangladesh, who were in a strong position at 105/1 before that mayhem, crumbled like a house of cards after that chaos and were eventually bowled out for 184 – 67 runs short of the target set by New Zealand. This was the visitors' second defeat against the Kiwis in the three-match series as they head towards the 3rd ODI on the last day of the year.
