Mominul Haque has said that the series will create more awareness about the team after they drew the two match Test series in New Zealand by 1-1. Bangladesh won the first match of the series and it was the first instance in four years when the Blackcaps were beaten in their own backyard.

New Zealand veteran batsman Ross Taylor had a fairytale finish to his Test career as he scalped the last wicket of the Bangladesh innings and the hosts won the fixture by an innings and 117 runs. Taylor has scored 7684 runs from 112 Test matches for New Zealand with an average of 44.16.

Shakib Al Hasan has stated that continuing to feature in all three formats of the game is close to impossible due to the mandatory quarantine constraints. Shakib, who was initially part of the Bangladesh Test squad for the New Zealand tour, later opted out of the series citing personal reasons.

New Zealand have named Tom Latham as their captain for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home, with Kane Williamson ruled out with elbow injury. Ajaz Patel, who bagged a historic 10-fer in Mumbai earlier this month, was the most notable omission in the 13-member squad.
