IPL should not be shifted out of India: Shah Rukh Khan
Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan on Sunday said that shifting the IPL out of India is likely to affect the business and viewership. The movie star's statement arrives after the BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said that the IPL's governing council will consider moving IPL 10 abroad.
"Business and viewership wise India watches maximum cricket. So IPL needs to be here. The Twenty20 tournament started in India and should stay here without any doubt," Shah Rukh told CNN-NEWS 18.
The BCCI has faced a lot of legal issues this season over hosting of IPL matches in drought-hit
Shah Rukh Khan, however, feels that the matches should be held where it does not cause any inconvenience to anyone. He said, "We need to continue the show wherever it is convenient for everyone”.
The Bollywood star feels that if the tournament is played in foreign shores, the teams will miss out on the opportunity to perform in front of their own fans. "Brand IPL won't get affected. But your ground is your ground. The garden of Eden is the garden of Eden! People in Abu Dhabi and South Africa are great, but you miss your own people and grounds,” Shah Rukh added.
The IPL has been played out of India in two previous seasons. In 2009, it was shifted to South Africa, while the United Arab Emirates hosted the first 14 matches of the 2014 season.
