Seven Chhattisgarh batsmen were dismissed before they could trouble the scorers in their 2nd innings of the Ranji Trophy Group C clash against Goa in Cuttack on Tuesday. Shadab Jakati and Darshan Misal picked up 7 wickets among themselves for Goa, who cruised to an 8-wicket win.

Resuming from their overnight score of 92/2 which had seen two ducks, Chhattisgarh suffered a big blow in the morning session when they lost their captain Mohammad Kaif for 38 runs. Ashutosh Singh and Sahil Gupta then formed a 53-run partnership to take their team to 148/3 in the 56th over, but it all went downhill for them after that. Chhattisgarh lost their next 7 wickets for a total of 14 runs as the middle and the lower order collapsed at the hands of Jakati and Misal. Eventually, Chhattisgarh were bowled out for 162 with seven batsmen scoring ducks—the joint-most in a single Ranji Trophy innings.

Chasing a paltry target of 94 in their second innings, Goa scored those runs in 21.4 overs with Samar Dubhashi remaining unbeaten on 41 and 8 wickets in hands. The loss has left Chhattisgarh at the bottom of the pool.

The last time this happened was in the 2003-04 Ranji Trophy Elite Group clash between Punjab and Andhra. On the opening day, Gagandeep Singh and Vineet Sharma picked up 5 wickets each to dismiss Andhra for just 30 runs in 17.4 overs. Seven Andhra batsmen failed to score in that innings.
