Mahendra Singh Dhoni apparently needed just three words, “Ok, that’s it.”, to convey his decision to the Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad, the latter has revealed. Prasad has also praised Dhoni’s “amazing clarity of thought”, but stopped short of revealing what he had discussed with Dhoni.

“OK, THAT’S it.” is what MS Dhoni said while announcing his decision to the selection committee, MSK Prasad has revealed to the Indian Express. The duo discussed this decision during Jharkhand’s Ranji Trophy semifinal match at Nagpur, but he has refused to reveal any details of that conversation other than praising Dhoni’s “amazing clarity of thought”.

According to Indian Express’ sources, the Selection Committee was keen to appoint Kohli as the captain in all the three formats but were apprehensive about forcing Dhoni to take this decision. However, it is Dhoni who decided to surprise them with his call.

All great leaders know when to quit

“Virat is doing an excellent job with the Test team and we know he is ready. But the pressures of ODI captaincy are different. And they wanted MS to be around, overseeing matters on the field and guiding Virat as he takes his first few steps as the limited-overs captain. They didn’t want a situation where MS hangs up his boots and Virat is left to take on the mantle all by himself,” the unnamed source said.

Meanwhile, Dhoni’s close friend and agent Arun Pandey has said that Mahi is looking to play till the 2019 World Cup. He said, “All great leaders know when to quit. He knows the team is ready. He still has plans to play international cricket for the next three to four years and play the 2019 World Cup. He’s arguably still the fittest cricketer in the country presently.”
