After the conclusion of the Tri-nation Nidahas Trophy yesterday, the Indian spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar have made massive leaps in the ICC T20I bowling rankings. Chahal went from 12th place to a career-high rank of number two while Sundar jumped from 152 to 31st position.

Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav put together a stunning performance in last month’s ODI series win in South Africa, where the wrist spinning duo claimed a record 33 wickets in a span of six matches. Chahal was not so great in the three-match T20I series that followed but was still called up for the Nidahas Trophy this month.

The tri-nation tournament turned out to be a fest for cricket lovers the world over, as Bangladesh managed to upset home team Sri Lanka to make it to the final of the tournament. Bangladesh then suffered a defeat at the hands of India after Karthik played stunning 8-ball 29 innings for the Indian team.

Chahal and Sundar, both claimed eight wickets each over the course of the tournament, as the former picked up three wickets in the final itself to help his team restrict their opponents to a score of 168. Chahal’s impressive display has seen him jump ten spots from 12th in the rankings to a career-high ranking of number two.

Sundar, on the other hand, was ranked at the 182nd position ahead of the Nidahas Trophy outing, but his display with the ball ensured that he would make a massive leap of 151 places to be ranked at 31st in the rankings announced today.

Rubel Hossain of Bangladesh also jumped 40 places from the 82nd spot to claim 42nd position and India’s Jaydev Unadkat is now in 52nd position as he rose 26 places after both the bowlers claimed seven wickets each. Mumbai Indians latest signing, Mustafizur Rahman dropped one place down to eighth in the rankings.

Amongst the batsmen, Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera who ended the Nidahas Trophy as the highest run-getter with 204 runs was rewarded with a jump of 20 places and has gone up to 20th position in the rankings.

Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh jumped 14 places and is ranked 47th after a series aggregate of 199 runs, while India’s Shikhar Dhawan has achieved a career-best ranking of 17th after his 198 runs helped him to jump 11 places up the list.
