IPL 2018 | SRH management is happy with whatever I have contributed so far, says Yusuf Pathan
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Yusuf Pathan has revealed that coach Tom Moody and skipper Kane Williamson have been satisfied with his performances so far in the 2018 season of the IPL. The all-rounder has also added that being the first team to qualify for the playoffs was a fantastic achievement for SRH.
Former Kolkata Knight Riders player Yusuf Pathan was written off ahead of the 2018 season of the Indian Premier League as after he was punished with a back-dated ban of 5 months for a doping violation. The 35-year-old was banned after he inadvertently ingested a prohibited substance, which was commonly found in cough syrups. However, he was still part of the players’ auction that was held in January after KKR chose not to retain the batsman.
He was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for his base price of Rs.75 lakh. In a recent interview with IndiaToday, Pathan claimed that head coach Tom Moody and the rest of the SRH management have been content with his contribution to the team so far.
"Yes, those five months when I didn't play first-class weren't that easy. But people didn't know what I was doing during that time. I was further honing my fitness and cricket skills during that period.
"You can see it now how it has helped me. I utilised that time well. I wanted to make sure that whenever I play a big tournament people shouldn't criticise my performance and say it is a result of not having played cricket for such a long time.
"That is benefitting me now. My teammates, my management is happy with whatever I have contributed to so far and that is what really matters to me. The match-winning ability and performing under pressure has been key for me this season too. I am happy and so is my coaching staff," Pathan said in the interview.
Yusuf was quick to praise his teammates and the rest of the backroom staff as he displayed his joy after SRH became the first team to make it to the play-off’s this year.
"Mashallah, it is a great thing for me personally and Hyderabad team as a whole. Becoming the first team to enter the playoffs this season is really special. We have done well in all the three departments so far. The most important thing for any team is how they perform under pressure and we have done that consistently this season by defending low scores and chasing big totals as well," said Yusuf.
