Indian allrounder Jemimah Rodrigues has stated that winning against the Australian team was really a good performance but the team has to keep the momentum going. The Indian team has been on a roll in the Women’s T20 World Cup winning every league encounter and cruising to the semi-finals.

India defeated Australia in their last Women’s T20 World Cup league match by 48 runs. The Women in Blue had already qualified for the semifinals before the encounter against the Kangaroos but yet they did not take the match easy and won it comfortably. Jemimah Rodrigues commended the team’s performance but also cautioned the team against any leniency.

“I think it’s important not just because it’s Australia, but for ourselves and our team, because we’ve got the momentum. So we need to keep that momentum, keep doing the things, don’t focus mainly on the results. So I think it plays a huge impact on our team and I think we look forward to it, but not get carried away and try to do even better in the semi-finals,” Rodriguez was reported by official ICC page as saying.

Harmanpreet Kaur came good against the Australian team scoring 43 runs off 27 balls. Rodrigues also revealed that before the match started the 171* innings of Kaur in the ICC women’s World Cup semifinal against Australia last year was also discussed to boost the morale of the team. That unbeaten 171 runs innings took India to the finals even though the women lost against the England women’s team in the World Cup Final.

“Yes, (that knock) was definitely discussed (before the match). In our meetings. it’s always good to remember the good stuff we’ve done. And it plays an impact and motivates each other. So we have spoken about that.

In the match against Australia, opener Smriti Mandhana and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur formed a half century partnership which laid the foundation of the win for India. Rodriguez emphasised that has the partnership been lasted a bit longer it would have been even better situation for India.

“So I think today also Harry di and Smriti, the partnership they had, I think if Harry di would have stayed for longer, we would have remembered a bit of the same one. But I think it was good.”

India has been clinical in all the matches until now and no opponent has managed to trouble them. Rodriguez has said that improved bowling and fielding have contributed the most to such a dominating performance by the team.

“I think from the first match to today, we all have seen a lot of improvement in our bowling and in our fielding. Our teammates, everybody, the coaches, the support staff, everybody is putting in a lot of effort, were working really hard and it’s paying off. We just try and get better,” she said.
