It’s ridiculous and baffling to read about the lies regarding the dressing room atmosphere, rages Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has hit out at media and the 'false' rumours regarding internal rifts, claiming that the players give their all for the nation and there is perfect harmony in the dressing room. He also talked about the upcoming World Test Championships and the squad selections for the Carribean Tour.
Ever since the World Cup campaign ended for India on a disappointing note, more and more reports have surfaced about dressing room issues. They have mostly revolved around the creation of two separate blocs in the team, one of either Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Further, there have been widespread rumours that Kohli may be asked to step down from limited-overs captaincy and hand over the reins to the opener who has been making headlines with his form. However, in the latest press conference, the skipper was quick to dismiss the claims of infighting before he slammed out on the media for even discussing such baseless issues.
"In my opinion, it's baffling and ridiculous to read such stuff. Public talks about how well we've played, and here we're feeding lies and talking about negative things. And I've seen this being brought up for far too long now. It's bizarre how people are creating these things. You enter the dressing room and witness for yourself the kind of healthy atmosphere that's there. The lies are made to look believable,” Virat Kohli was quoted saying.
"We are living and breathing in getting Team India to the top, and here some people are doing there best to bring us down. The friendship and camaraderie is there for everyone to see," he added.
Kohli said that they had not discussed the idea of taking a rest and simply had to move on regardless of precious results. However, the break from duty requested by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Hardik Pandya has allowed the team to bring in a few fringe players, apart from some exciting prospects in the shortest format of the game.
“Basic message was to try out a few players they had in mind. The ODI side is more or less balanced. I’m particularly excited about the first three T20Is. Some youngsters have shown great composure in tournaments such as the IPL,” Kohli said of the team selection.
Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane have both found their way into the Test squad, as Kohli lauded the two with praise. The tour will also mark the beginning of India’s World Test Championship campaign, which the skipper perceives to be a positive introduction.
“I think it's a good thing. Test cricket really needed a boost. I think for all the cricketers now, every session will be more intense. All the teams are going to enjoy a lot more,” he stated.
