Although the opener's brilliance helped Mumbai Indians reach a total of 176, their bowlers underperformed massively which resulted in Mumbai losing their second IPL game. This result might also force Mumbai to make a few changes to their bowling unit for the next match against Chennai Super Kings.

Rohit Sharma (6/10): It was a waste of a start by the Mumbai skipper, and although he guided the team to a good powerplay score, it was eventually not enough. A solid straight ball by Hardus Viljoen caught him plumb in front and he played to a wrong line, but replays showed that his dismissal was missing leg on HawkEye. His captaincy left a lot to be desired as well.

Quinton de Kock (7.5/10): QDK got into the mood instantly and knowing the wicket didn’t have any help for bowlers, he took his chances from the very beginning. It was a pretty effective innings given the fact that Yuvraj Singh was very slow to get off the blocks and never showed any signs of intent at the other end.

Suryakumar Yadav (3/10): Hit a couple of gorgeous drives to get going, but was instantly undone by a Murugan Ashwin slider, which stayed low when the batsman was trying to pull it. Of course, he didn’t have to do that against leg-spinner straightaway as there were enough runs on the board from the beginning.

Yuvraj Singh (3/10): After two excellent innings in the first two matches, Yuvraj Singh is back to doing what he has been doing in the last five years - wasting balls, scoring with less than 100 SR. Despite not being able to find the connection properly, Yuvraj stayed there for almost eight overs, which meant Mumbai were denied at least 20 more runs.

Kieron Pollard (2/10): Of course, Kieron Pollard can hit and that’s why he has been so highly valued at Mumbai Indians. But it was very difficult to wrap one’s head around why he was trying to do today? Wasn’t close to hitting a boundary and when it tried, Mayank Agarwal took a good catch to send him back to the pavilion. Turning out to be a liability for the team very fast.

Krunal Pandya (7.5/10): After the middle-overs were spoilt, Krunal had one job at hand - to hit as much as he can, and that mindset yielded 10 runs off five balls. That was pretty good, but his bowling was even better as he dismissed Gayle and Mayank Agarwal when both of them were looking dangerous.

Hardik Pandya (6.5/10): Mumbai Indians liberate him, it is the dash of blue on that glossy sleeve, the Jnr. Pandya unleashes his true attacking self. He did that in Mohali today and ensured the three-time champions had a safe total to approach, but his bowling performance proved to take the shine of his batting fireworks yet again.

Mitchell McClenaghan (2/10): It must have been clear for Mumbai now that they are going to replace McClenaghan with Jason Behrendorff. The Kiwi freelance cricketer was very wayward with the lengths and was not close to what Mumbai needed him to be, no matter his economical last over.

Mayank Markande (5/10): For reasons only known to Rohit Sharma, Markande only bowled a solitary over, in which he went for 12 runs. Krunal Pandya’s performance with the ball probably was the main reason for the same, but then again, Rahul’s crafty performance was too good to bring another spinner then.

Jasprit Bumrah (6.5/10): The Indian pacer bowled as per the expectations, but Rahul was intelligent in the way he avoided Bumrah. Rohit Sharma was to blame for not using him in the middle-over properly, which meant Rahul was comfortably cruising.

Lasith Malinga (5/10): The Mumbai Indians pacer had one of those off-days where his slingy Yorkers were defended from full. Yes, it was the case throughout and he did little to change his length.
