India fielding coach R Sridhar has introduced a new type of fielding drill called 'Round the Clock' with focus on direct hits. India is a robust fielding unit but has not enjoyed a lot of success when it comes to direct hits which can make a difference in the results in crunch situations.

Gone are the days when fielding was the Achilles heel for the Indian team. The side is now a safe fielding unit but still lacks the firepower when it comes to direct hits. Barring Ravindra Jadeja, the entire team needs to improve its conversion rate for direct hits.

Trying to beat the monotony, the fielding coach R Sridhar has introduced a new fielding drill - ‘Round The Clock’ and further explained what it is.

“We had an interesting fielding session today. The theme of the session was direct hit. The focus was on boys getting it right from different angles at the non-striker’s end. Initially, we started with a drill called ‘Round the Clock’, where there were six different fielding positions from where they had to hit the stumps 20 times,” Sridhar told BCCI.TV after the session, reported PTI.

“Then we introduced a game where those who get a successful direct hit is out of the session and those who fail have to come back again and finally there was only one guy who was left in the end. The boys were rolling on the floor laughing."

The former first-class cricketer also spoke about a “correct arm-path” and how crucial it is for the right execution.

Apart from the fielding session, Virat Kohli was also seen bowling off-spin to the batsmen in the nets and was played with ease. With a lack of an off-spinner in the squad and Kedar Jadhav not bowling due to his shoulder injury, the skipper was just giving some practice to the batsmen in the team.
