ENG vs SL | Twitter reacts to Kusal Mendis’ ecstasy cave into utter silence after catching failure
The increased usage of technology has been a huge advantage to the sporting realm as it adds a layer of transparency to the outcome of various decisions. Similarly, the usage of DRS turned Kusal Mendis’ ecstasy into silence during the fourth day of the England versus Sri Lanka first Test.
On the last ball of the second over, Asitha Fernando strangled a full-length ball down the leg stump that Duckett tried to whip. However, he failed to middle the bat and got an inside edge en route to the diving keeper. To the naked eye, it seemed as if Kusal vouchsafed a splendid catch by diving to his left. However, as the onfield umpires send it upstairs, TV umpire Joel Wilson could visibly spot the red rock touching the grass while being in contact with the keeper’s gloves. Eventually, the decision was overturned and Ducket survived. However, Mendis was ecstatic after taking the catch and threw the ball in the air as a part of the celebration. Seeing an enthusiastic celebration cave into silence, Kusal was a part of the discussion in the Twitterverse.
Great effort

Dragged along the ground
If I had a nickle for every time Ben Duckett looked to be out to a really good catch but then the replay showed the ball had been dragged along the ground...

Bucket instead of Ducket
#ENGvsSL My dad keeps calling Ben Duckett “Bucket” he said “Oh Bucket is batting yeah” 😂😂😂😂

Flipping balls
Ben Duckett flipping the bails with a "I've never done this before" caught on the stump mic ... he's been warming up to the bowl in the breaks during this Test match too...

Good one
Breath taking catch that wasn't from Kusal Mendis 😃😃

Appealed it
Kusal Mendis should have known about it. Yet, he appealed for it.

Sure, it's not as blatant as a cheating as Rashid Latif from the 2003 Multan Test against Bangladesh.
Will the match referee, David Boon, censure Mendis for this act? Mostly, he'll get away, I suspect.#ENGvSL
Lucky for Ducket
#cricket #TestCricket #ENGvSL Great catch by Kusal Mendis, keeping in place of Chandimal who has an injured thumb. Umpires have referred it upstairs, picture shows ball on ground and it is overturned. Rough on Kusal Mendis, lucky for Duckett.

Terrific effort
Damn that was a terrific effort by Kusal Mendis but just couldn't get hold of it as the ball just touched the ground for a micro second #ENGvSL
