A game can face many disruptions, and at times, technical malfunctions may even lead to a pause. This was evident on the second day of the Test between India and New Zealand in Mumbai, where the spidercam stopped functioning and forced the match officials to call for an early lunch.

‌India had a solid start with the bat as overnight batters Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant began well on the second day. Pant adopted an aggressive approach, starting the day with three fours in an over. Gill quickly joined in, and together they propelled the score to 175/4, forming a 96-run partnership. Both batters reached their half-centuries, placing the hosts in a strong position. However, Pant’s innings came to an end when Ish Sodhi dismissed him in the 38th over. With Ravindra Jadeja alongside, India moved to 195/3 in 43 overs.

As lunch approached, with just a few minutes left and one over remaining, an issue arose. During the 43rd over, the spidercam malfunctioned, landing awkwardly on the square. The on-field umpires conferred, leading to a temporary halt in play. The Kiwi players shared a few laughs as the humid conditions set in, with Daryl Mitchell engaging in light-hearted banter with the umpires. With the technician delayed in arriving to fix the issue, the umpires opted to call an early lunch due to the unusual pause. Amusingly, as the players returned to their dressing rooms, the spidercam started functioning again. The humorous incident sparked laughter on Twitter, with users sharing their thoughts on the spidercam mishap.
