The winning mentality often demands an individual to go beyond the bar to turn the tide. Joburg Super Kings skipper Faf du Plessis looked unscathed with the bat against the MI Cape Town on Saturday, and it took a special effort from Dewald Brevis to get rid of him at the Wanderers.

Sighting to kick off the tournament on a positive note, the Joburg Super Kings decided to field first against high-flying MI, riding on a comprehensive win. A collective effort from the Yellow Army gave a flying start with the ball before George Linde’s cameo propelled the table-toppers to 140 runs in full quota. In response, Faf took charge of the bat and JSK got off to a blistering start, almost laying the foundation for their maiden win in the edition. However, Brevis had other plans when he pulled out a jaw-dropping take at the edge of the boundary ropes to remove du Plessis.

Kagiso Rabada bowled a length delivery outside the stumps on the seventh over’s first ball when du Plessis aimed to loft it over deep cover. Although the timing seemed good, the ball swirled around the ropes when Brevis stationed there, intercepted the white rock. The young gun grabbed the ball and jabbed it back in the air before stepping out of the ropes. Quickly, he dived in full-fledged and made ground by grasping the free-falling ball firmly. The MI teammates were all pumped with du Plessis's dismissal, and Brevis’ scintillating fielding display irrespective of the wet outfield deserved applause.

Baby Superman!
