Why These Two Legends Mastered Every Format of the Game
Various players are considered as the best batsmen across all formats. But there are some key records which they have not achieved in a few formats. Only two batsmen in cricket history have achieved major records across all formats.

If you are good in T20Is, you can be Nicholas Pooran. If you're good in ODIs, you can be Rohit Sharma, and if you are good in Tests, you can be Joe Root. But if you have managed to be good in all three formats, achieving the best in all of them, you can be either Virender Sehwag or Chris Gayle.
Sehwag and Gayle can be considered as the most complete batters across all formats of the game. Take a look at Virat Kohli, he doesn't have a double century in the ODI format. MS Dhoni, India's legendary finisher is not having an overseas century across any format of the game. Even the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar, did not score a triple century in Tests.
Yuvraj Singh, the most aggressive batsman, didn't have an IPL century. But if we take a look at Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle, all the boxes discussed above will be having a tick. They were not just players who did well in any format of the game, they were players who dominated in them.
Our Take
Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle have created a legacy with their left handed batting and aggressive striking skills. Even though they have retired from the game, they remain the only players to have achieved some major batting records across all formats. Scoring 300 in a Test match, having an overseas century, scoring a double century in ODIs, and a century in IPL too.
