Brazilian great Ronaldo to visit India
Brazilian football great Ronaldo is set to visit India this week as guest of ISL franchise Delhi Dynamos, according to the Times of India. The visit comes on the heels of the visit by all-time great, Pele last month for Atletico de Kolkata.
The paper reported that the former striker will arrive this week and watch the Dynamos' match against Mumbai City FC on November 6. The two-time Ballon d'Or winner’s visit will be a one-stop trip unlike that of Pele, who visited cities across the sub-continent.
The visit will re-unite Ronaldo with former Brazil and Real Madrid team- mate, Roberto Carlos, who is currently serving as the manager for the Delhi based franchise. At Real Madrid, Ronaldo was a member of the 'Galácticos' alongside David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo and Roberto Carlos.
Ronaldo scored 62 goals for Brazil in 98 matches, the second highest goal-scorer for his country after Pele.
He played in three World Cups (1998, 2002 and 2006) and won the Golden Ball for the player of the tournament in 1998, despite a heart-breaking final which they lost to France. The legend would eventually erase the blot by spearheading the Brazilian squad to a thumping victory in the 2002 World Cup. He also held the record for top goalscorers in World Cups, until he was overtaken by Miroslav Klose in 2014.
