ISL 2015: Three reasons why Kolkata will defeat Delhi tonight
Kolkata were left fuming when Delhi stole the three points in the dying minutes of the reverse fixture at the Salt Lake Stadium last month. The defending champions will seek revenge when they travel to face Delhi today, with a refurbished attack and lot of confidence thanks to their stunning win against Kerala in the last game.
Prediction
Delhi Dynamos 1-2 Atletico de Kolkata
The reinforced Kolkata attack
It was not long back when Kolkata went without scoring in three consecutive games, but things have turned around for Antonio Habas'men. The defending champions have now scored seven goals in their last three games and have reinforced their attack with the return ofmarquee striker, Helder Postiga, and their newest addition – Serbian striker Dejan Lekic.
The return of Arata Izumi, who was also struggling with his fitness, in the last game had an immediate impact as the Japanese born Indian midfielder scored a brace and won the game for Kolkata. With his presence in the side, Iain Hume will have far more freedom to roam around and create chances for others.
All of a sudden Kolkata's attack is looking lethal and they are sure to outscore a Delhi attack which has scored the least number of goals in the league so far – 7.
Kolkata's formidable record on the road
This match against Delhi will be their last away fixture in the league phase, and Atletico have maintained a good away record this season. In fact, 10 of the 13 points they have scored so far have come on the road. They have produced a couple of stunning performances, in the 4-1 and 3-2 win against Mumbai and Kerala respectively, in their last two away games– taking their tally to 11 goals in six games on the road.
Delhi might finally run out of luck
Delhi have won only one of their last four games and that win came against Kolkata at the Salt Lake Stadium. It was a lucky victory for the Lions who got there despite going down to ten men and escaping a few other bookings for a series of rash challenges, Dos Santos came off the bench and scored the winner in the dying minutes.
In fact, Delhi have 'sneaked' a lot of points this season and have hardly dominated any team for the whole 90 minutes. Their strong defence has won them a lot of games, but now with Robin Singh and Sehnaj Singh unavailable for selection, due to their national team commitment, Delhi are likely to come up short against Atletico tonight.
