Arsenal and Werder Bremen get into hilarious Twitter banter

Werder Bremen and Arsenal got into some friendly banter on Twitter after Bremen's £4.5million summer signing from Arsenal, Serge Gnabry, scored a hattrick for the German National team. The 21-year-old was handed his debut by Joachim Low paid back his manager with three brilliant goals.

San Marino were thumped 8-0 by the Germans in the Group C World Cup Qualifiers and Gnabry's current employers' official Twitter account had a bit of a laugh at Arsenal's expense. Not only that the Bundesliga club had the audacity to tag Arsenal into their tweet as well.

Serge Gnabry was considered by many as one of the more talented players that the fabled Arsenal academy had produced in the last few years. So it was a huge surprise when he was let go for a mere price of just £4.5m.

The tweet gathered some momentum on social media with more than 20,000 retweets and eventually made its way to the Emirates Stadium in London.

Arsenal tweeted a picture of their own in response. The picture showed Ray Parlour scoring one of his treble of goals against the German team in a 4-2 win in the UEFA Cup win 2000, with a caption reading "On the subject of hat-tricks, remember this?"

Gnabry has had an impressive start to his Bundesliga career as well, scoring 4 goals in 9 matches. Arsenal fans might be left to wonder what if?
