Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has hinted that the club might revive interest in Manchester City winger Leroy Sane in January. The Bundesliga champions came close to signing the Sane in the summer but finally gave up on him and instead brought in Ivan Perisic and Philippe Coutinho.

Bayern Munich’s interest also fizzled out partly for the reason that Leroy Sane suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and had to undergo a surgery to repair the damaged ligament. He picked up the injury in the Community Shield against Liverpool in which Manchester City won 5-4 on penalties and the German is expected to return to training at the beginning of 2020.

The Sky Sports report states that Uli Hoeness will step down as the Bayern president in November, and Hoeness has said that the club is closely monitoring Sane’s situation and recovery. He also admitted that Bayern’s interest in the German international remains high and they could relaunch an offer in January depending on well Sane recovers from the injury.

"We were very much interested and had discussions with him but he had his big accident, an awful injury, and we could not go on with it. We therefore have to wait now [and see] how his recovery goes on. I think the new leaders will have to sit down in January and February [and decide] what's going on with that," Hoeness told the Planet Futbol podcast.

Bayern’s initial plan to acquire Sane failed in the summer but they had a strong plan B. Bayern signed players like Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Perisic on loan to add flair to the attack. To bolster the defence, they were successful in signing Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid and Benjamin Pavard from VfB Stuttgart, who have done relatively well, with the Die Roten travelling to face Paderborn next.
