PKL 2019 | Defence took rash decisions which cost us the match, states Rakesh Kumar
Haryana Steelers coach Rakesh Kumar, after losing the second match against Dabang Delhi, asserted that it was their defence that made mistakes and didn’t follow plans as a result of which they lost the match. He also praised Naveen for his performance as he was the highest scorer for their side.
This was Haryana Steelers second match of PKL 7 and they lost 41-21 against Dabang Delhi KC. Steelers didn’t play well as a team and there were good individual performances by Naveen and Vinay in the raiding department. However, they failed to play as a unit and lost the game against their neighbours. Naveen scored nine points while Vinay scored five and they supported each other well. It was their defence which was lacklustre last evening. Apart from skipper Cheralathan’s three points ,there was only one tackle point taking there total to only four tackle points in the whole match.
“The raiders followed the plan we had decided on in the initial stages. The defence, however, failed to do so and made mistakes. Our defence took rash decisions which cost us the match,” coach Rakesh Kumar said in the post-match press conference.
The team lacked synchronization and didn’t execute their strategies well enough. Only four tackle points and 17 unsuccessful tackle attempts match is a testament to how badly their defence failed.
“We made mistakes today and we need to learn from them. We need to work as a team if we want to win. We will work on our defence for the upcoming matches,” Kumar explained.
The only bright light in the whole match was Naveen's performance in the raids. He scored a total of 23 points in his two matches and is someone coach Rakesh can definitely depend upon.
“This is a team game. Naveen played well but he can't win a match alone. As I said, the raiders did well but mistakes in the defence cost us. I am happy with Naveen's performance and I hope he continues performing like this in the upcoming matches,” Rakesh signed off.
