Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen’s ban reduced
The AIFF on Thursday reduced the eight-match suspension handed out to Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen, to four games after the coach gave an unconditional apology to the apex body. Sanjoy was suspended for 8 games and slapped a heavy fine, after making derogatory comments against the federation.
The All India Football Federation had suspended the Bagan coach on March
“In view of the unconditional apology tendered by Mr. Sanjoy Sen, both verbally and in the form of an affidavit in addition to his undertaking that such incidents will not happen in future, the AIFF Appeals Committee, which met at Football House on March 31, 2016, unanimously decided to reduce the penalty of suspension from eight matches to four matches to be served consecutively,” the AIFF said in a statement after a meeting of its Appeals Committee.
“At the same time, the amount of fine has been reduced to Rs. 5 lakh instead of Rs. 10 lakh and it is to be deposited within 15 days from the date of communication,” the statement added.
However, the Mohun Bagan coach will be absent on the sidelines for this week’s Kolkata derby against East Bengal with Sanjoy Sen serving the third match of his four-match suspension. Sanjoy Sen will return to the sidelines on April 9 for the match against DSK Shivajians. The Mariners are top of the table in the I-League with 25 points leading Bengaluru FC by three points with four matches remaining in the season.
