West Indies legend Vivian Richards has slammed the ICC for its double standards when applying its rules to different teams singling out India's favourable treatment as an example. He also was furious at the treatment meted out to Darren Sammy and team for their remarks after the T20 World Cup.

"There are rules in the one-day game under the auspices of the ICC, like for instance the system where you go back to the third umpire and things like that," Richards told 'Jamaican Observer' on Thursday.

"So, if you are the sole governing body of world cricket, then everyone should be coming under the same umbrella. The Indians do not play certain things the ICC may have in its rules. They totally ignore that and they have been getting away with it for years," Richards said.

The legend was particularly furious about the ICC's response to the comments by the World Cup-winning Windies and their captain Darren Sammy. In the post-match presentation, Sammy and man-of-the-match Marlon Samuels had voiced their issues with the Board.

“We had issues with the board. We felt disrespected by our board.

“This one with all that happened before the tournament, the disrespect from journalists and from our own cricket board that was out of order,” Sammy had said after the match.

The ICC had lately taken offence to the remarks and said, in an official statement, that their comments were "inappropriate, disrespectful and brought the event into disrepute" and that they would be charged for breach of the ICC's Code of Conduct for their actions.

Richards slammed the “double standards” applied saying, "I am only trying to hit back because of what they are trying to do because of Sammy's comments. They are trying to be a body that if you say this, it's out of order then you're going to be this and you're going to be that.

"When you look around the world in terms of the governance of the ICC, there are rules for some and not others," he added.
