Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board launches probe after Ind-WI Test is called off
The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board has launched an investigation as to why the 4th Test match of the series between West Indies and India was abandoned, despite long periods of sunshine. Only 22 overs were bowled in the match as India lost the chance to retain their No.1 ranking in Test cricket.
Only 22 overs were bowled in the match after the first day of the Test was cut short due to rain. Things did not improve on day 2, and with no improvement in conditions on day 3, 4, and 5, the match was called off putting a tame end to the series, which saw a few great moments intermittently.
Despite a bright shiny day, poor drainage at the Queen's Park Oval cost India a shot at going for a win in the final Test of the India-West Indies series. The visitors ended with a 2-0 series win, but that was not enough as Pakistan took over the No.1 Test spot while India
However, The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board has questioned the decision to call off the match, and they feel that this could jeopardize the venue's chances of hosting major international matches in the future.
"As hosts, the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board and QPCC (Queen's Park Cricket Club) regret that limited play was possible in the 4th Test Match between WI and India at the Queen's Park Oval.
"We have jointly launched an investigation to determine what occurred with a view to remedying the situation so that this does not occur in the future.
"Once this has been done it will be presented to the WICB (West Indies Cricket Board)," Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board president Azim Bassarath said in a statement, reported AFP.
