Inzamam-ul-Haq : Pakistan can take back No.1 spot from India
Pakistani legend Inzamam-ul-Haq believes that despite their alienation in world cricket, they can still defeat any team and take back the No. 1 spot from India. Inzamam, who serves as Pakistan's national chief selector, also expressed his disappointment at the ongoing Indo-Pak cricket deadlock.
India-Pakistan cricket ties have not been exactly rosy in the past few years with the Indian Board refusing to stick to the MoU it had signed with the Pakistan Board regarding bilateral series. Although Pakistan had pressed India multiple times, the last time the two players remained that short tour the neighbors made to India in early 2012. However, with the Uri attacks and the souring of relations, any possibility of a series has been wiped out and the two may not face off in the near future on the cricketing field.
Lamenting the loss of cricketing ties between the neighbors, "What can one say on this Indian refusal since 2007 to play us in Test matches. It is disappointing for me as I have played and captained against India in both countries and I know how much these matches mean to people of both countries and cricket world," Inzamam told PTI in an interview.
However, he believed that Pakistan, who took the Test No.1 ranking after drawing the series at England last month, can once again take it from India. Although he was disappointed with the lack of home series for the team, he was confident Pakistan can achieve the feat.
"There is nothing we can do but Pakistan is still capable of beating other teams and get back the number one Test spot from India," the former Test captain said.
"India is playing 13 Tests at home in the next few months, we have not played at home since 2009. But I still believe this Pakistan team can do well anywhere and against anyone," he said.
The way we fought back from 1-2 down to level the series in England was a heartening performance. India has not done that well outside their country in Tests. They lost their last series in England.

Inzamam was excited about the current crop of players in the squad and believed that they would do well when the Pakistan team visits Down under to play a Tests and ODI series later this year.
