Subramaniam Badrinath is set to announce his retirement from all forms of cricket
According to latest reports, former Chennai Super Kings star Subramaniam Badrinath is all set to announce his retirement at the end of IPL season. The 37-year-old is currently doing commentary for the ongoing season and his absence from international cricket and IPL for two years hint towards it.
The right-handed middle-order batsman has been a stalwart on the domestic circuit with brilliant figures. However, despite his heroics there, Badrinath could manage only two Tests, seven ODIs and one T20I in national colors. And, in the last two years, he has skipped playing for Hyderabad as well in IPL, which is all pointing that he might announce his retirement soon.
Making his International debut in 2008, when India toured Sri Lanka, it took him two more years to get into the Test squad against South Africa in Nagpur. However, he was benched at the Test against New Zealand and later dropped, thus ending his Test career.
He played his last ODI against West Indies in North Sound in 2011 as his career had many turbulences, which included when he went unsold in IPL auction 2014 after playing for CSK from 2008-2013. He was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2015 but again, he did not get to play.
Badrinath has been a part of 145 first-class matches with a healthy average of 54.49 and has scored 10245 runs in total. In 144 list A contests, he scored 4164 runs at an average of 36.84. He scored 2300 runs in the 142 T20 matches he's played. Badrinath will definitely retire a legend at the domestic level even though his international career was short-lived.
