VIDEO | K Gowtham steals an extra run with Yuzvendra Chahal watching him with ball in hand
While sloppiness in cricket has been seen many a time, it went to a whole new level when K Gowtham stole an extra run with the ball in Yuzvendra Chahal’s hand. However, the real culprit had to be Parthiv Patel, who for some reasons, decided not to cover the wickets to collect Chahal’s throw.
In a do-or-die encounter, RCB decided to go all out to take down Rajasthan Royals, whose chances to stay alive in the race to the playoffs also heavily depending on the match. And the RCB bowlers, led by Umesh Yadav, did well to restrict the hosts but the pair of Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Tripathi got going as the innings progressed. While everything, other than the toss, seemed to go in RCB’s favour, K Gowtham came in and hit a couple of sixes to give RR a chance to end with a respectable total.
However, on the fourth ball of the last over, Tim Southee bowled a length ball to which Gowtham steer towards short third man where Yuzvendra Chahal was stationed. A single was never in doubt and Gowtham would never have expected anything more than that. Again, he wouldn’t have expected Parthiv’s lax attitude either.
With Chahal holding the ball, it was only natural for a wicket-keeper to come towards the stumps to collect it first so as not to allow the opposition from picking any more runs. Taking the advantage of the same, Gowtham, knowing that it was the last over of the innings, ran for a couple and when Chahal realised it, it was way too late and the Royals pair completed the single.
The poor game sense by the Ahmedabad-born keeper also surprised Virat Kohli, who was clearly disappointed, as was shown in the TV camera.
