Any team that has a strong tail is never out of the game and world cricket has a lot of examples of the same. While India can’t pride themselves of having one now, Jasprit Bumrah, a true No. 11 batsman, has shown his improved batting ability and even impressed Adam Gilchrist with his strokeplay.

Rewind the clock back to 2016 when Jasprit Bumrah made his international debut in Australia. While he immediately made a mark with his unorthodox bowling, his lack of batting ability made it a joke among the people. He held his bat like a weapon ready to be thrown and it made for a fun watch.

Cut to 2018. He has become a world-class bowler, if not the best limited-overs bowler of the current time, and India’s chief hope to guide the team to the World Cup glory. But his batting is still the same and one would really be surprised if he can hit a boundary without the help of luck.

However, if that is the general perception that you have of Bumrah, then you might in for a surprise. The bowler came out all guns blazing to destroy all the preconceptions. In the pre-match nets session, Bumrah used his feet to great effect to score runs all around the ground and even decided to slog one. His back foot play was also an interesting watch as he quickly managed to bring his body to the perfect position and slashed the ball beautifully.

The practice caught the attention of Adam Gilchrist and the former Aussie superstar even asked the pacer regarding the same. However, the Indian humbly played down his credentials by stating that it was one of those good days in office.
