We have the team to do well in New Zealand and Australia, states Sourav Ganguly
BCCi President Sourav Ganguly believes that India has the required firepower in their side to perform well in New Zealand and Australia. India will be touring New Zealand for a two-match Test series in February 2020 while they will again be hitting the Australian shores at the end of that year.
India's ICC Test Championship campaign has got off to a flying start as they have won all their games so far to sit pretty at the top of the table with an unbelievable 360 points. But former Indian skipper and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly believes that India's real test will be when they will tour New Zealand and Australia next year.
At the same time, Ganguly believes that India have the ammunition needed to be successful in their conditions and they have already shown it in 2018 when India beat Australia 2-1 to win their first-ever Test series Down Under. Ganguly feels that this Indian team's ultimate ambition must be winning overseas Test series because the longest format is the biggest test of one's technique and temperament.
“That’s the ultimate ambition. We have done well in Australia last year. We have the team to do well in New Zealand and again in Australia. That’s what our aim is as the world’s best Test team,” Ganguly told in a show called 'Inspiration' which will soon be telecasted, according to PTI.
India has also been experimenting with their T20 side giving opportunities to different players to try to understand which player can fit into the specific role that the team requires. After drawing the series 1-1 to South Africa and losing the first T20 to Bangladesh, India came back in style to win the remaining of the two T20 Is to win the series 2-1 and Ganguly feels that the Indian team is in really good shape ahead of their T20I series against West Indies.
“We are chasing very well in T20 cricket. We need to do the same when batting first. I have some thoughts which I will share with Virat, Ravi and the management. We haven’t played many T20 internationals and I am confident by the World Cup we will be absolutely ready,” Ganguly stated.
With the T20 World Cup set to be held in October-November next year along with the tours of New Zealand and Australia, exciting times lie ahead for the Indian cricket fans.
