Shoaib Akhtar has pledged his support to the Indian cricket team as they face a tough challenge ahead of them in the form of World Cup 2015 runner-ups New Zealand. Virat Kohli-led India will face-off against Kane Williamson & Co. in the first semi-final at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

India ended their group stage outing at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 on a positive note by pushing aside Sri Lanka with a comfortable seven-wicket victory on Saturday. The men in blue will now face-off against a strong New Zealand outfit led by the ever-consistent Kane Williamson in the first semi-final of the year’s global showpiece.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has pledged his support to the Indian team as he revealed that he would like the World Cup trophy to come to the Asian subcontinent.

"New Zealand can't take pressure. I hope they don't choke this time. But I really want the World Cup to stay in the subcontinent and I think, I will back India all the way," Akhtar said in his Youtube channel.

The Indian opening duo of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul impressed in the last outing against the Lankans. Sharma scored a record-breaking fifth hundred at Leeds against Sri Lanka on Saturday as he hit a stunning 103 to help India thrash the Lankan and finish the group stage with 15 points from nine games. Rahul also scored 111 to get his maiden World Cup hundred.

"Rohit Sharma has great timing and shot selection. His understanding of the game is also superb. K.L. Rahul also got his ton which is a good thing," added Akhtar. Here is the full video:
