ICC World Cup 2019 | Jason Roy ruled out for two games due to hamstring tear
England suffered a huge blow as their swashbuckling opener Jason Roy has been ruled out of the next two games against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka due to a hamstring tear. English skipper Eoin Morgan also suffered a back spasm in their previous encounter against West Indies and is being monitored.
Roy has been the man in form for England and has wreaked havoc at the top. Unfortunately, the belligerent right-handed batsman won’t be a part of England’s upcoming fixtures against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka respectively because of a left hamstring tear.
“England batsman Jason Roy, who left the field during West Indies’ innings in the ICC Cricket World Cup fixture on Friday due to left hamstring tightness, underwent an MRI scan on Saturday in London,” said England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in a media release.
Roy pulled up an injury while chasing a ball against West Indies on Friday and immediately given medical attention. He didn’t take part in the game later and an MRI scan has now revealed a tear in his hamstring.
“The MRI confirmed that Roy has suffered a hamstring tear. As a result of the injury, he will be reassessed on an ongoing basis this week. He is set to miss England’s next two matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup against Afghanistan (18 June) and Sri Lanka (21 June),” added ECB.
To add to England’s woes, the extent of the injury suffered by Eoin Morgan, who left the field during the same game after suffering back spasms, is not confirmed yet. His participation in the next game against Afghanistan is in jeopardy and will be monitored for the next 24 hours.
“England captain Eoin Morgan, who left the field during West Indies’ innings in the ICC Cricket World Cup fixture on Friday due to a back spasm, underwent a scan this weekend and further treatment. The spasm has settled down and will be monitored over the next 24 hours ahead of England’s next match against Afghanistan tomorrow (Tuesday) at Old Trafford, Manchester,” concluded ECB.
