Former Indian Skipper has come to the support of MS Dhoni, who recently has been under fire for his slow knocks, notably the one against Afghanistan. However, Ganguly firmly believes that Dhoni will eventually come good due to his experience and ability, and termed the slow knock as a 'one-off'.

MS Dhoni has been in the limelight in the past week for his relatively sluggish knock against Afghanistan, and he added fuel to the fire by starting his innings off slowly against West Indies, before eventually catching up in the final three overs. Dhoni's apporach has attracted criticism from experts all around the world, including Sachin Tendulkar, who believed that Dhoni should have showed more intent in his knock against Afghanistan.

However, Sourav Ganguly has come forward in defence of MS Dhoni, stating that the performance is just a "one-off", and that Dhoni has found himself in similar situations in the past. "It's a one-off and I won't look too much into it. Yes, MS Dhoni has been in the situation in the past, last year when he came to England, we saw the same struggle with spin," said Ganguly, as quoted by the Times of India.

Ganguly also stressed on the fact that the other batsmen will need to support Dhoni, as Dhoni could then bat through the innings with the other batsmen then taking a more aggressive approach. "But he (Dhoni) needs someone to play with him, and if he bats with Virat Kohli at three, K L Rahul at 4 and he is at 5, or with the likes of Hardik Pandya, life becomes a lot easier for him because they keep hitting and he keeps rotating the strike," said the former Indian skipper.

Ganguly also said that he will not judge Dhoni for his slow knocks, because of the sheer hitting ability he possesses. He also said that Dhoni will definitely succeed because of his ability, experience and quality. "So, lets not get into M S Dhoni so quickly in this competition yet, because his experience, the quality and the ability he has, he will defiantly succeed" Ganguly said.

The Men in Blue's next challenge will be against the hosts England at Edgbaston on June 30.
