Brandon King and Hayden Walsh Jr., who impressed with bat and ball respectively in CPL 2019, have been called up by the Windies for their ODIs and T20Is against Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Darren Bravo, who had an underwhelming series against India in August, has been axed from the Test squad.

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL), in the past, has given birth to stars like Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford, Oshane Thomas, Nicholas Pooran, etc and has been the perfect platform for the West Indian selectors to identify the superstars of the future. It now looks like the duo of Brandon King and Hayden Walsh Jr. are next in line to be added to the aforementioned list, after being handed their maiden call-ups by the team management for the limited-over matches against Afghanistan.

24-year-old opener King, who famously smashed the highest individual score in CPL history (134*) against Barbados Tridents, amassed a staggering 496 runs in just 12 innings in this season, while leg-spinner Walsh Jr. spun a web around the batsmen, picking up 22 wickets from just 9 matches. 24-year-old pacer Romario Shepherd has also been included along with Khary Pierre, who has become a force to be reckoned with bowling in the powerplays.

A notable exclusion from the limited-overs squad is Carlos Brathwaite, who was sensationally leading the side in the T20Is not long ago. Sunil Narine and Andre Russell also miss the tour due to injuries, while Chris Gayle also remains absent from the squad. Meanwhile, 34-year-old Denesh Ramdin has also made a comeback to the T20I side alongside pacer Kesrick Williams, who last played a match for the Windies in 2018.

On the other hand, in Tests, Darren Bravo, who managed to score just 47 runs in the Tests against India has been axed, while wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich, who has now fully recovered from his injury, returns to the side. Pacer Shannon Gabriel also misses out on the Tests due to an injury, while Alzarri Joseph, who took the world by storm with magic figures on his IPL debut, has been picked after also recovering from his shoulder injury.
