India head coach Gautam Gambhir rejoins the Indian team in Adelaide ahead of their pink-ball encounter against Australia in the second Test of the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy. He missed India’s two-day practice game at the Manuka Oval after flying back home due to personal reasons.

Gambhir landed in Australia on Tuesday morning and joined the Indian brigade during their practice session three days before the second Test match commences at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. Following India’s 295-run triumph against the hosts at the Optus Stadium, Perth, the 43-year-old left for home after informing the BCCI about his personal reasons.

In Gambhir’s absence, the coaching staff including Abhishek Nayar, Morne Morkel, T Dilip, and Ryan ten Doeschate oversaw India’s two-day practice game against Prime Minister’s XI, which was cut short to a One Day 50-over-per-side contest due to rain. On the back of Harshit Rana’s four-for and top-order brilliance, India did win the pink-ball exhibition by five wickets. Apart from Rana’s bowling brilliance, Shubman Gill’s fifty on return was one of the positives for the visitors. However, captain Rohit Sharma, who batted at number four failed to impress, having scored just three runs.

With the second Test set to begin on December 6,  India can expect at least a couple of changes in their side with Rohit and Shubman set to make a return. Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel may have to make way for the two regulars. In addition, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin could be around the corner to replace Washington Sundar, provided the team management feels so.

Currently, India leads the series 1-0 and would be eyeing to enforce their domination down under.
