Confidence is good for an individual’s performance, but overconfidence hardly produces desirable results. Like many other bowlers, Mohammed Siraj was too enthusiastic during his morning spell but failed to get any wickets despite drawing the eyeballs of his teammates and the match officials.

Resuming proceedings in the second innings, Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney were watchful against the 20 overs (approx.) old ball donned by Jasprit Bumraha and Mohammed Siraj. The latter almost created an opportunity to dismiss Marnus if not for a thick inside edge onto the pad. Unaware of the fact, the bowler was seen yearning for the wicket in the 36th over.

Siraj came over the wicket on the fourth ball of the 36th over and nipped back a length delivery into the right-hander. Labuschagne played at it a tad outside the line and incurred an inside edge onto the pad. Subsequently, Siraj was seen as overzealous while appealing but the umpire Richard Illingworth seemed unmoved. Following a brief conference with Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and the slip cordon, India went against reviewing. The fact that Siraj only bucketed 17 wickets in his last 18 Test innings gave an opportunity to the Twitterverse to troll Siraj.
