Virat Kohli is as polarising a sportsperson as a sportsperson gets -- half of them hate his guts and call his aggression gimmicks, the other believes that same self-belief made him rule a generation. The MCG crowd at the Boxing Day Test definitely fell in the first bracket on Thursday.

‌A rapid Sam Konstas half-century at the top of the order, followed by a measured 57 from his opening partner Usman Khawaja and 72 from Marnus Labuschagne saw India reeling at 176/2 at Tea. The tension was running high at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground with the Boxing Day atmosphere in full effect and when big occasions arrive, the one man that always rises to meet it is Virat Kohli. The Indian veteran was hyped up as he charged around in the field and midway through the second session had already barged into Sam Konstas to spew some heated words before unnecessarily firing a throw at Labuschagne who was standing by innocously. The crowd was having none of it as boos instantly rang around the crowd and the beef reached a head in the 59th over.

Steve Smith edged a back-of-a-length Akash Deep delivery past the slip cordon, leaving Kohli to chase after it. The 35-year-old sprinted like he was still a teenager and in the end, put in a sprawling dive to save a run for his time. However, as he went back to retrieve his glasses beyond the ropes, the crowd reached a fever pitch with jeers and Kohli responded with a couple of words of his own.

It only sparked a more raucous cheer and the boos got louder, perfectly culminating the event that is the Boxing Day Test in Twitterati's eyes.
