Australia finished their group stage with a five-wicket win over Scotland. The Scottish side showcased some great batting with Brandon McMullen and Richie Berrington taking them to 180/5 whereas Travis Head and Marcus Stionisā€™ half-century dashed Scotlandā€™s hope for the Super Eight stage.

ā€ŒEyeing a berth in the Super Eight, Ireland took to the crease first after Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss. The Scottish side got off to a rocky start as Ashton Agar dismissed Michael Jones in the opening over. However, this early setback didnā€™t deter Scotland. Brandon McMullen and George Munsey switched gears, unleashing an onslaught on the Aussie bowlers. Their partnership yielded an impressive 89 runs off just 48 deliveries, propelling Scotland to 83/1 in eight overs. With McMullen smashing a 26-ball fifty, Scotlandā€™s innings looked promising. However, the crucial partnership was broken in the ninth over when Glenn Maxwell scalped Munsey, leaving Scotland at 96/2 by the halfway mark. The Aussies regained control when the dangerous McMullen was dismissed by Adam Zampa in the 12th over, followed by Maxwell removing Matthew Cross in the 15th over, reducing Scotland to 138/4. Despite these setbacks, Richie Berringtonā€™s resilient 42 off 31 deliveries helped Scotland finish strong. With the Australian bowlers maintaining tight control in the death overs, Scotland concluded their innings at 180/5 in 20 overs.

Australia got off to a poor start as David Warner failed to make an impact and was dismissed in just the second over. However, Marsh and Travis Head steadied the innings with a resilient partnership, adding 32 runs and pushing the score to 34/1 after five overs. Scotland's bowling showed promise when Safyaan Sharif removed the Australian captain in the sixth over. Despite this setback, Maxwell and Head held their ground guiding Australia to 59/2 by the eighth over. Scotland's disciplined bowling continued to trouble the Australians, highlighted by Mark Watt's dismissal of Glenn Maxwell in the ninth over, causing concern for the 2021 champions. The momentum began to swing Australia's way as Marcus Stoinis and Head built a crucial 61-run partnership, advancing the score to 121/3 by the 15th over. With 60 runs needed from the final five overs, Australia was eager for a strong finish. Head, scoring a half-century off 46 balls, played a pivotal role amidst their chase. However, Scotland regained hope when Sharif dismissed Head in the 16th over, bringing Tim David to the crease. Stoinis accelerated the chase with a rapid fifty off 25 balls, reducing the equation to 36 runs required from four overs. Yet, Watt intervened once more, claiming Stoinis's wicket in the 17th over after a vital 59 runs off 29 deliveries. Ultimately, Tim David's late cameo of 24 off 14 balls, sealed the victory for Australia clinching a five-wicket win over Scotland. With this loss, Scotland is eliminated from the group stage, while England and Australia advance from Group B to the Super Eight.Ā
