Modern cricket provides players with ample protection to prevent injuries, but Steve Smith momentarily forgot that on the fourth day of the first Test in Perth when Harshit Rana’s sharp delivery struck his ribs and Travis Head quickly reminded him, pointing out that he had a chest guard on.

‌Australia stumbled at the close of the third day, losing quick wickets to finish at 12/2. As the overnight batters, Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith walked out on the fourth day, Australia needed a near-miraculous effort to chase down 534. However, the woes continued as Khawaja was dismissed by Mohammad Siraj in the sixth over, with the Indian pacers maintaining their dominance, mixing bouncers and full deliveries to keep Smith and Travis Head on the back foot.

Amid the pressure, a comical moment arose when Harshit Rana bowled a shorter delivery off the 13th that angled back into Smith. The right-hander attempted a swivel pull but misjudged the stroke, leading to the ball striking his ribs with a thump. Smith collapsed in pain but was quickly attended to by Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Head. As Smith recovered and resumed batting, Head lightheartedly reminded him to continue, pointing out that he was wearing a chest guard. The moment went viral on social media, with many fans chuckling at Head’s humorous remark.

 Head revealed the truth
