Australia's cricket team has often faced criticism for their bold appeals, even when a catch isn't clean. A similar incident occurred during the fourth ODI at Lord's between England and Australia when Josh Inglis, despite not catching the ball, confidently appealed which sparked boos from the crowd.

ā€ŒEngland took control early in the match after losing the toss, with openers Ben Duckett and Phil Salt racing to 48/0 in nine overs. However, after the dismissals of Salt and Will Jacks, attention shifted to Harry Brook to carry the innings forward. With England at 92/2 in 16 overs, a controversial moment unfolded that stirred the crowd at a packed Lord's.

On the fifth ball of Mitchell Starc's over, a back-of-a-length delivery down the leg side saw Brook attempt a flick, resulting in a clear inside edge that flew to Aussie wicketkeeper Josh Inglis. Inglis dived to his left and claimed the catch, celebrating with his teammates. Umpire Joel Wilson, convinced by Inglis' confident appeal, quickly signalled out. However, the on-field umpires referred the decision to the third umpire to confirm if it was a clean catch.

However, the replays revealed that the ball had bounced just before it reached Inglis' gloves, leading the umpires to reverse the decision to not out. As the footage played on the big screen, the crowd erupted in loud boos, expressing their disapproval of Inglis' questionable sportsmanship.Ā

The incident immediately brought back memories of the 2023 Ashes series in England, when Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey faced a similar reaction from the Lordā€™s crowd after he ran out a distracted but well-set Jonny Bairstow.

Oh Inglis!
