The Melbourne Renegades bounce back after a hattrick of loses in the Big Bash League by defeating the Perth Scorchers by four wickets. Will Sutherland and Tom Rogers’ all-round show coupled with Adam Zampa’s three-fer eclipsed Ashton Agar’s fifty and Scorchers’ pace brilliance in Perth.

The ploy to field first on a wicket that has assisted the bowlers to a great extent, worked well for the Melbourne Renegades. The pace duo of Tom Rogers and Will Sutherland removed Finn Allen, Mitchell Marsh, Cooper Connolly in a 34-run powerplay. Ashton Turner and Nick Hobson failed to accompany Aaron Hardie for long as the score read 86/5 in 14 overs. With Hardie at 34, the power surge was opted by the Scorchers, allowing Ashton Agar to free his arms despite Hardie’s departure. Following 25 runs in the floating powerplay, Agar clobbered the opposition during the slog overs, bringing up his fifty despite a couple of wickets, propelling the hosts to 147/8 in 20 overs.

Unlike the opposition, the Renegades failed to get half the decent start in the second innings, courtesy of Jason Behrendorff’s lethal opening over. His double-wicket maiden was followed by Jhy Richardson and Lance Morris extracting a couple of wickets overall, pushing the Gades to 10/4 midway through the fifth over. A 34 runs partnership followed with the skipper Will Sutherland taking control of the chase with Marcus Harris. Although the opener was a goner in the tenth over, Sutherland kept the Renegades in the hunt under Tom Roger’s presence. From 66/5 in twelve overs, the pair added 45 runs in the next four overs before Agar conceded six in the 17th over. With 31 required from the last three overs, Sutherland departed for 45-ball 70 after a twelve-run 18th over. With twelve needed from the last over, Matthew Kelly delivered a couple of no-balls and a six, setting up run-a-ball equation with three balls remaining.
