The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is about to have another challenge for a team. And this time it is Pakistan, who decided to come in support of Bangladesh after the latter got excluded from the tournament. Recently, the ICC has given a warning to Pakistan, if they take any boycott actions for the tournament.

There are more banters off the field before the T20 World Cup 2026 than what we could actually witness in the games. Just a few weeks before the tournament, one team has been ruled out of the tournament and also replaced by the other. Bangladesh had a long-standing talk with the ICC to not play their games in India.

The BCB had cited security concerns, and no one came in their support except Pakistan. With Bangladesh now being replaced by Scotland, Pakistan is also eager to rule themselves out of the tournament. However, taking a look at the talks and Pakistan's likely request, the ICC has given a warning to the board.

1. Pakistan Gets ICC Warning

After Bangladesh was removed from the T20 World Cup, Pakistan decided to come up in its support. There were internal talks within the government, whether the team should participate in the tournament or not. But it should be noted that Bangladesh didn't want to play their games in India due to which they got removed.

On the other hand, Pakistan has their matches scheduled in Sri Lanka. Mohsin Naqvi said, “Had a productive meeting with the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. Briefed him on the ICC matter, and he directed that we resolve it while keeping all options open. It was agreed that the final decision will be taken either on Friday or next Monday.”

However, the ICC has given a warning to Pakistan cricket board for the same. They have said that if Pakistan breaches anything related to their participation in the T20 World Cup, it will impose serious sanctions against them. They will also be suspended from the global and continental tournaments after the same.

Along with that, another warning by the ICC involved the Pakistan Super League. It said that the overseas players would not receive an NoC from the ICC to participate in the Pakistan Super League. However, fans still wait for a decision to be made by Mohsin Naqvi. It is reported that his decision would come on Monday, after having a talk with the government.

2. What Happens if Pakistan Rules Out?

Several questions remain on what possibly could happen if Pakistan decides to rule out of the tournament. Bangladesh got ruled out of the tournament and they were immediately replaced by the next best team, which is Scotland. But in the case of Pakistan, it won't be them being replaced by the next best team.

The reports say that the ICC has kept Bangladesh on a standby. If Pakistan decides to not play the T20 World Cup, their spot in the tournament will be given to Bangladesh. Since the team has ruled out of the tournament as they wanted to play in Sri Lanka, this would eventually fulfill their request.

So, if this happens, Bangladesh will once again be a part of the T20 World Cup. But this time, it will be Pakistan who will be paying the price. It all remains as a big question, whether Pakistan will decide to rule out of the tournament or not. And if they do, will it be a way for Bangladesh to get back with ease and find their games in Sri Lanka.

3. India vs Pakistan Controversy

The controversy between India and Pakistan has been long-standing in the game. But it has extended a lot since Pakistan were declared as the hosts of the Champions Trophy. India was unwilling to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns. Noting the past scenarios in Pakistan, the ICC eventually decided to shift India's games to UAE.

Even the match between India and Pakistan was played at UAE, giving both teams a neutral ground. Later in April-May 2025, the controversy between these two countries grew even more. The Indian team was unhappy with the Pahalgam attack, which killed several innocents. But the army responded well with its Operation Sindoor.

Later, both teams were set to face each other in the Asia Cup 2025. After India defeated Pakistan in the Group stages, the Indian players directly walked back to the pavilion, without shaking hands with the Pakistani team. And this is where the controversy between these two teams escalated to a great extent.
