With Mohun Bagan and East Bengal playing out an underwhelming 1-1 draw in the Kolkata derby on Saturday, Bengaluru FC have been handed the opportunity to take a lead at the top of the table if they manage all the three points against Shillong Lajong at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru tonight.

The Fed Cup champions have made a bright start to their I-League campaign with two away wins in their opening two matches – against Salgaocar and newly promoted side Aizawl. In the last game, Curtis Osano's goal helped them to a 1-0 win against a valiant Aizawl side. However, Ashley Westwood has hoped that his attackers start finding the back of the net more consistently.

Shillong Lajong, on the other hand, have played only one match so far – the goalless draw against Mumbai at home. While they are the underdogs, on paper, in this game, Thangboi Singto will hope for a better display in the final third of the pitch today.

Team news:

Shillong Lajong manager Thangboi Singto does not have any injury concerns ahead of this game, but he could make some changes to the attack, which failed to score against Mumbai in their opening game.

Bengaluru will be without Daniel Lalhlimpuia who faces at least four more weeks on the sidelines with an injured knee. The Blues, on Thursday, announced the replacing of injured midfielder Joshua Walker with Englishman Michael Collins, who is due to arrive in the country shortly. Robin Singh is the other player missing from the squad at the moment and no expected return date has been placed on him at the moment.

Prediction

Bengaluru FC 2-0 Shillong Lajong

Bengaluru have one of the strongest squads in the league, and Shillong Lajong will find it hard to cope with them today, especially with the vociferous home support egging them on.
