Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that club still has a long way to go despite the 4-0 win opening day against Chelsea. The Red Devils did initially struggle but eventually picked up the pace and out-performed Chelsea in Frank Lampard’s managerial debut for the Blues.

Chelsea may have hit the post twice, but in the end, the game went to Manchester United with their clinical nature paying off in spades. It effectively changed the course of the game, with Marcus Rashford netting a well taken double, before Anthony Martial and Daniel James finished things off for an emphatic win.

However, despite the eventual result, Manchester United were far from the best version of themselves with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirming as much. In fact, if Chelsea had taken their chances, the game could have been over and done with much before it even started for the home side.

“Chelsea pinned us back and created a few chances. But we settled a few nerves at half-time and the second half was outstanding, we defended well in shape and counter-attacked well. The boys have been working hard but this is still the start, we can still get some hard work in,” said the Norwegian in an interview with Sky Sports.

“We have found a way we want to play they've made us coaches believe in that way. We took risks but that's the way here, you've got to go for it, risk and reward. We know we're not anywhere near the finished article.  We are working on improving as a team and finding a style that suits us a team. We still need time but it is coming. Winning is a habit. We are lucky to go in 1-0 up but in the second half our nerves settled, our confidence grew," Solskjaer concluded.
