Liverpool once again showcased impressive performances in the Carabao Cup, as the team fixed its place in the semi-finals of the tournament. In their previous match against Southampton, Liverpool was able to win 2-1 in the quarter-final game.
Darwin Nunez started off things well for Liverpool, scoring a goal in the 24th minute of the game. For six games, Nunez was not able to score a goal but he proved his worth to the team by breaking his goal-less streak in the semi-finals. This was followed by the goal of Harvey Elliott which was further assisted by Cody Gakpo.
Southampton entered this game with an interim manager, Simon Rusk, as their previous manager Russell Martin, was sacked. His sacking came after the team lost its previous home match against Tottenham by a devastating margin of 5-0. Trent Alexander-Arnold also performed well for the time he played, showcasing formidable form.
Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, had a one-game touchline ban, but he felt great even watching it from the stands, as Liverpool was able to dominate throughout. From Southampton, only Caoimhin Kelleher was able to score a goal in the 59th minute of the game.
